CTM Mobile Messaging & Gaming Competition

Objectives:

Technology is expanding rapidly and the mobile world is experiencing an evolution in advanced technology. To maintain its position as a leading telecommunications provider in Macau, CTM is preparing its next generation to be involved in this transformation.
In view of this, the Mobile Messaging and Gaming Competition, open to all interested applicants in Macau, aims to cultivate the creativity and potential of our next generation. It also seeks to advance the development of mobile technology for the benefit of local telecommunications industry as well as for the betterment of people's daily lives.

Participation:

Participants can be individual or as a group, are required to develop messaging and gaming applications that take advantage of the current GPRS network capabilities using any applications as well as the advanced features of Sony Ericsson T300 and T68i handset.

Qualifications:

  • Applicants must be Macau resident;
  • Can be individual or group application;
  • Group application cannot be more than four members.
    (Welcome applicants from universities, technical institutes, IT application providers or anyone who are interested in Macau)

Initial Screening :

  • All candidates must register through the official web site http://www.ctm.net.
  • Each team or individual should submit one hardcopy of each document including the report and the presentation as well as a soft copy on CDROM and mail to CTM - MBU (Rua de Lagos, Telecentro, 15/F, Taipa, Macau), stated "CTM Mobile Messaging & Gaming Competition" application.
  • The proposal must include a report and a presentation that describes the marketing potentials, navigation menu and system architecture of the proposed application, and how it takes advantage of GPRS, MMS, J2Me or other technologies with advanced features of Sony Ericsson T300 or T68i handset.
  • The report should consist less than 15 single-sided A4 pages including an executive summary. The team or individual can attach appendices to the report if needed and should use Microsoft Word or Acrobat PDF format for final submission.
  • Candidates should use Microsoft PowerPoint for the presentation, comprising of less than 25 slides. It should focus on the application design and user interface design.
  • The organisers will select ten finalists from all entries to participate in panel interviews.

Initial Judging Criteria:

  • Clarification of product specifications (20% )
  • Ability to describe the product features thoroughly
  • How it relates to the development of mobile technology for the next generation.
  • Ease of use (20%)
  • Easy access to content
  • Easy to understand navigation method
  • Simple to use
  • Innovation (20%)
  • Originality
  • Creativity
  • Uniqueness
  • Marketability (30%)
  • Ability to find a target market segment for the application
  • Ability of the application to serve the needs of the chosen market segment
  • Market potential of the application for the chosen market segment
  • Presentation (10%)
  • Ability to give an organised, concise, and convincing presentation
  • Should include a business plan, the user interface, the system solution, and a real demonstration.
  • Emphasize how the solution meets the above 4 judging criteria.

Final Presentation:

  • The ten finalists will be provided with a Sony Ericsson T300 or T68i handset (must be returned after use) and a CTM GPRS-enabled SIM card to aid in implementation of the respective programme.
  • Each team or individual will have a maximum of 20 minutes for their presentation.
  • Any applicants who did not follow the Rules and Regulations will be immediately disqualified.

Final Judging Criteria:

  • Technical Skill (40%)
  • Programming Design
  • Navigation design
  • Ability to exploit the capabilities of a GPRS network e.g WAP, SMS, MMS, J2Me, etc.
  • Ability to utilise Sony Ericsson T300 or T68i features
  • Must be able to demonstrate the final product with Sony Ericsson T300 or T68i via CTM's GPRS network
  • Operational aspects and maintainability of the application.
  • Ease of Use (35%)
  • Easy access to content
  • Easy to understand navigation method
  • Simple to use
  • Presentation (25%)
  • Ability to give an organised, concise, and convincing presentation
  • Should include a business plan, the user interface, the system solution, and a real demonstration
  • Emphasize how the solution meets the above 2 categories of judging criteria

Schedule:

  • Online registration until 22 January 2003
  • Initial proposal submission until 21 February 2003
  • Finalists short-list 28 February 2003
  • Final presentation 10 May 2003
  • Winner list 17 May 2003

Rules and Regulations:

  • All entries must be original and unpublished. Any adaptation, reproduction, modification or derivatives of any existing application will also be considered, provided that the applicants have indicated and provided references to the source and any changes involved original elements in the entries. Applicants shall bear all responsibilities for any summons arising from possible breach of copyright.
  • For details of intellectual property rights and the laws that concern them, please refer to the applicable Intellectual Property Law issued by Macau SAR Government, in particular Decree-Law 43/99 of 16 August 1999.
  • The decision of the judges in all matters relating to the competition is final.
  • All title and property of the team or individual entry belong to the respective team or individual. However, organisers reserve the right to discuss further business co-operation with the short-listed candidates. The winning team or individual must grant 12 months exclusive use of the entry to the organisers for whatever purpose commencing upon the date of the Awards Presentation.
  • The organisers shall at their discretion require applicants to participate in publicity events during the competition.
  • Pornographic, violence and illegal elements are prohibited in all entries.
  • The organisers reserve the right to make any changes to the Rules and Regulations, prizes and other arrangements of the competition as they see fit. The organisers further reserve the right to amend the rules of the competition without any prior announcement.
