8th Asia-Pacific Software Engineering Conference (APSEC 2001)
The University of Macau, the Office for the Development of
Telecommunications and Information Technology, and the United Nations University
/ International Institute for Software Technology are jointly organizing the 8th
Asia-Pacific Software Engineering Conference (APSEC 2001) at the international
library of the University of Macau during 4~7 December 2001. This conference has
already attracted more than 110 researchers and professionals in the area of
software engineering and technology from 23 countries and regions.
This is the biggest APSEC to date. APSEC 2001 received 145
submissions from 28 countries and regions. An International Program Committee
reviewed all the papers. 56 papers have been accepted and will be presented at
the conference based on relevance, originality, and technical content, including
several from Macao. The conference will also benefit from the contributions of
four distinguished invited speakers: Prof. Huimin Lin, a member of academician
of the Chinese Academy of Sciences from the Institute of Software, Prof. Mathai
Joseph from the Tata Consultancy Services, India, Prof. Jayadev Misra from the
University of Texas, USA and Prof. Carroll Morgan from the University of New
South Wales, Australia.
APSEC has taken place annually since 1994. This is the first
time it is being held in Macao. There is no doubt that this event will further
promote the international image of Macao and also the academic exchanges in the
area of IT between Macao and its neighbors. APSEC 2001 is sponsored by the
National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Macao Foundation, the Public
Administration and Civil Service Bureau of Macao SAR, CTM, and the Macau
Government Tourist Office.
The opening ceremony will be held at 9:30 on 4 December. The
conference will be opened by Prof. Iu Vai Pan, Rector of the University of Macau.
Prof. Iu, on behalf of the conference committee, will also give a speech. The
organization committee will hold a reception at the Hotel Lisboa during the
evening of 6 December. The conference will close in the afternoon of 7 December
2001 and a final buffet dinner will be provided at UNU/IIST that evening.
