An initial digit must be added to telephone numbers of the DDI service !!

The Government of Macao Special Administrative Region implemented formally the Digit Adding Plan of Telephone Numbers on October 1, 2006. With the cooperation of all the parties involved, the first stage of digit adding of all the commercial and residential telephone numbers, fax numbers and the mobile telephone numbers came to an end smoothly. Starting from January 1, 2008, another stage of the digit adding of telephone numbers is going to be implemented, and the detailed measures of which are as follows:

• The initial digit "8" should be aded to all the present 7-digits telephone numbers of the DDI service.
• The period of adaptation, during which the dialing of both telephone numbers of the DDI service (old and new) is allowed, runs until June 30, 2008.
• Starting from July 1, 2008, the parallel dialing mode of the DDI service will be terminated and comes the stage with voice prompts to indicate the correct dialing for a period of half a year.
• Besides, the voice prompts for the incorrect dialing of 6-digits fixed telephone numbers and of 7-digits mobile telephone numbers will terminate on December 31, 2007.
